Purpose of the role

This position is part of the Sempra Infrastructure audit team, contributing to operational excellence and a strong safety culture across all energy operations including LNG, pipeline networks, large-scale construction projects, and renewable generation. The Principal Health and Safety Auditor provides independent, objective assurance on the adequacy and effectiveness of health and safety management system for both operational sites and construction projects, evaluating risk exposure, verifying critical controls, and delivering actionable recommendations to strengthen operational resilience and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsabilities

• Plan and lead risk-based audits of health and safety management systems across Sempra Infrastructure’s operations and construction projects in the US and Mexico.
• Assess compliance with Sempra Infrastructure’s internal policies, procedures, and standards, as well as external regulatory frameworks (e.g. OSHA, IMSS, and local regulations), including incident classification and reporting standards.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of safety programs such as Permit-to-Work (PTW), Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO), and process safety protocols, for both operational and construction environments.
• Review incident investigations to confirm they were conducted according to applicable standards and regulatory requirements, without participating directly in the investigation.
• Verify governance and oversight mechanisms for high-risk activities (lifting operations, confined spaces, electrical isolation, energy control) through documentation and evidence review, in both operations and construction projects.
• Analyze trends and systemic risks using audit data, and recommend improvements to strengthen safety culture, operational resilience, and support Sempra Infrastructure’s sustainability goals across all project types.
• Communicate audit findings to management and senior leadership verbally and through audit reports that clearly articulate findings, risk implications, and actionable recommendations, following Sempra Infrastructure’s reporting standards.

Technical Expertise Required

• Advanced knowledge of health and safety management systems in energy operations and construction environments.
• Proficiency in risk management tools, including Hazard and Operability Study (HAZOP), Hazard Identification (HAZIP), and process safety principles.
• Working knowledge with Permit-to-Work (PTW) systems, Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO) procedures, and hazard identification frameworks for both operational and construction settings.
• In-depth knowledge of regulatory standards (OSHA, IMSS, local regulations) and industry best practices.
• Ability to assess documentation and support evidence for compliance with safety standards, including incident investigation reports, without direct participation in investigations.
• 10–15 years of combined experience in high-risk industries such as LNG, gas pipelines, refining, chemicals, and power generation.
